Dental Care

Properly Caring For Your Italian Greyhounds Teeth

Dental care for Italian Greyhounds is one of the most important things you can do for your puppy. Brushing  their teeth daily will prevent dental disease. Dental issues can cause kidney and heart issues as well as pain from abscessed teeth.

Equipment  Poultry toothpaste for dogs. Choose a toothbrush that is the appropriate size for your puppy.

Procedure  The first step is to help your puppy get used to having his mouth handled. Begin by gently rubbing his gums with your finger. He will enjoy this especially when he is teething. When he is comfortable with this, it will be time for the next step. Place a small amount of toothpaste on your finger and rub his gums. He will love the taste.

Next start using the toothpaste on the toothbrush. Start with front teeth. Stop when the pup feels uncomfortable. Gradually increase the number of teeth brushed until the puppy is comfortable having its entire mouth cleaned.

Always make it fun. Give treats after you brush. Make sure to praise your puppy while cleaning lots of happy good boy sweet puppy comments.

It is also worth trying to use an electric child's toothbrush. It is worth trying to desensitize him to the vibration. If you succeed his teeth will keep his teeth very clean.

Brushing your Italian Greyhounds teeth will become a habit that the IG will like.
